Pros Tips
THE 80/20 RULE
The average golfer spends about 80 percent of his time at address staring at the ball and 20 percent looking at the target. Pros time is reversed. Locking your eyes on the ball can make you loose track of your target, skewing your aim. Plus, standing still for even a few seconds tightens your muscles, and tight muscles move more slowly than relaxed ones. Tension also inhibits the release of the club - thats why nervous golfers hit their drives to right field. To stay loose, waggle the club, slowly check the target, then swing. Remember the old Scotsman said, "As ye waggle ye shall swing." Good luck and play well.
BACKSWING: THROW A STRIKE
To hit the ball with power and accuracy, you must be able to control the club at the top of the swing. Lose control, and theres no telling where the ball will end up. To set the club at the top, picture a baseball pitcher just before he releases the ball: His right arm is bent at the elbow, forming a 90-degree angle. The right forearm is directly beneath the ball, allowing the pitcher to hold the baseball with minimal effort. Try to set this 90-degree angle in your swing. Supporting the clubs weight over the right forearm keeps the club in the correct position at the top. From here, you can swing down freely. Good luck and play well.
LET IT RIP LATE
The sequence of timing in your golf swing is key to hitting solid and powerful shots. Most amateur golfers make their most aggressive move directly from the top of the back swing leading to over the top pull hooks and slices. If you will allow the club to fall from the top, let centrifugal force build the momentum of your downswing. When the right elbow reaches your right hip, put gas on the gas with your hands and arms while rotating through the shot to a full finish. Good luck and play well.

Golfers, bring your family, because we cater to kids!
Young people who learn the game of golf enjoy benefits that last a lifetime. Besides learning the value of physical fitness, kids also learn teamwork, discipline, and a sense of accomplishment. Sharing enthusiasm for the game of golf is a great family activity, so we invite you to plan a day of golf for your family, right here at River Hills.
The Myrtle Beach area golf courses believe in giving kids a love of the game, so during the summer months courses take turns hosting a golf tournament for kids each day of the week. We host several of these events at River Hills- call us for dates and details. We'll see you on the course!
